My Beautiful Daughter - Heidi Gwynne

Written 22nd April 2012

Well Heidi, the wait is over, you arrived at 1230 today
It was actually 1229 my love, we worried you were going to stay
But all of a sudden you were on your way and it was time to light the sky
With your beautiful face and the most amazing sound, your very first cry

So now I'm a father and my world's been flipped, you'll one day realise
You're incredible, so truly special, a smile with the biggest eyes,
And so well behaved already, or do I speak too soon?
Quiet & content, already feeding - we're completely over the moon

You're the centre of our universe, and our journey has just begun
We're thrilled about every single step, our beautiful little one
If ever we forget, remind us, if ever we seem busy just shout
Because you will always be everything to us, never have any doubt

5 weeks and counting

5 weeks left and the clock counts down
Yet I'm thinking you'll not be late
After last weeks dance, it seems you want out
And if truth be known, I can't wait

Just so you know, you raised the siren
And caused a bit of a stir
Not the real thing, a false alarm
And for us a rehearsal did occur

Just so we're clear, we think you'll be sporty
You've already had a boost
And when you're old enough, we'll fully explain
It was 2 am and mummy was goosed

You're pretty darn active, kicking and wriggling
Are these signs of things to come?
You'll answer that soon, I'll not ask again
Yours always, daddy and mum x

10 weeks to Fatherhood

by Phill Wright

I'm thrilled, excited and can't wait to see
Your beautiful face, smiling back at me

I'm seeing things different, my purpose is new
Not just for my wife now, my life is for you

I'll guide you the best with my head and my heart
And I'll listen always, even when we're apart

I'm nervous a little but confident too,
My word is eternal, I'll be there for you

I'm curious and wondrous over who you'll be
I'll always be proud, both mummy and me

I'll give you my all but I have one request
I'm learning like you, be patient, I'm doing my best

Self Belief

I used to think belief was won through weekly Sunday school
Attending without fail and faultless to the rule
And whilst religion can provide a base to hang ones trust
Another form of belief is needed, to succeed it's an absolute must

Growing up reveals to us our strong points and our weak
Our piers guide us with a critical eye through good times and the bleak
And human nature can often home in on what we don't possess
But it's not the shortfalls of our make up that creates success

You learnt to walk with relentless drive falling time after time
That childhood lack of fear, failure an unthinkable crime
Yet the falls were the solution, carving your path to take
So believe in yourself, your goals and remember it's your own life to make

Equal Standing

No one's better or worse on this earth,
In God's eyes, we're equal as one
No wealth or possession buys true social standing
No difference between daughter or son

Life

Quite a big subject to tackle in my first blog post but here's my thoughts:

Life is but a sheet of paper, sounds simple but it's true
We all start out a clean white sheet, but it's what we each go through
That colours in that clear white sheet, defaces, tears or folds
Sometimes bright and colourful, the stories that are told

Others we'd prefer to rewrite, hindsight a wonderful thing
Yet often the greatest journeys are masked behind a sting
And these define us, make us strong, shape our learned way
Attempting to rewrite or wipe the written can leave pains that stay

Does it matter that our sheet gets filled, scribbled on or tainted
Worn around the edges, smudged, well and truly painted
Is it better to accept ourselves and rejoice our colourful wealth
Than try to make the sheet look clear and shiney, superficial health

It appears to be essential, to look good for the masses
With different styles and fashions to match our social classes
Life like this seems not to bring happiness and health
The single law that provides this is simple - love yourself
